Biography

Danie Gerber was one of the greatest centres South Africa has produced, with rare strength, speed and instinct. Born in Port Elizabeth on 14 April 1958, he played for Eastern Province and Western Province and scored 19 tries in 24 Tests between 1980 and 1992.

He scored hat-tricks against South America in 1982 and England in 1984. His career was limited by South Africa’s sporting isolation, but he returned at 34 to score two tries against New Zealand in 1992.
