Biography

Mannetjies Roux was a fearless, unpredictable centre and one of the most popular Springboks of his era. Born in Victoria West on 12 April 1939 and educated at Paarl Boys’ High, he played for Western Province, Northern Transvaal and Griqualand West.

He won 27 caps between 1960 and 1970, at centre and on the wing. He scored two tries in the 34–14 win over the 1962 British Isles side and played his last Test in the 20–17 win over New Zealand in 1970. He toured Britain and France in 1960–61, New Zealand in 1965, France in 1968, and Britain and Ireland in 1969–70. He later farmed in the Karoo.
