Biography

Bertus van der Merwe was a Boland hooker who played 12 Tests between 1955 and 1960. Born in Rawsonville on 14 July 1929 and educated at Worcester Gimnasium, he travelled long distances to train and play. He toured Australia and New Zealand in 1956 and stayed with the team despite losing his son early in the tour. He died on 23 November 1971, aged 42.
