Biography

Fonnie du Toit was an accurate, reliable scrumhalf who never lost a Test. Born in Vryburg on 13 March 1920, he played for Northern Transvaal and won eight caps between 1949 and 1952.

He scored a try in the final 11–8 win over the 1949 All Blacks and another in the 8–3 win over England at Twickenham. His half-back partnership with Hansie Brewis became one of the most celebrated in Springbok history. He died on 21 July 2001.
