Biography
Tom van Vuuren was the biggest man in rugby in his day, standing about 1.95 m. Born near Adelaide in the Eastern Cape on 9 July 1889 and educated at Paul Roos Gymnasium, he played for Eastern Province and was the heaviest member of the 1912–13 touring team.
He played in all five Tests of that Grand Slam tour and won them all. He worked as a teacher and later farmed in the Albany district, where he was president of the Albany club. He died on 7 July 1947.
