Biography

Lammetjie Luyt was the scrumhalf credited with starting the dive-pass tradition, encouraged by Markötter as a way to escape the forwards bearing down on him. Born in Ceres on 26 February 1888 and educated at Paul Roos Gymnasium and SACS, he played for Western Province.

He played seven Tests and won six of them, scoring tries in the first and third Tests against the British Isles in 1910. He was part of the 1912–13 Grand Slam side. His brother Dick also played for South Africa. He died on 6 June 1965.
