Biography
Deon Fourie is a tough, versatile forward whose late call-up made him a World Cup winner. Born in Pretoria on 25 September 1986, he played for Western Province and the Stormers before seven seasons in France with Lyon and Grenoble. He returned to Cape Town in 2021 and helped the Stormers win the first United Rugby Championship title in 2022.
He made his Test debut at 35 against Wales in 2022, the oldest Springbok debutant in decades. A flanker who also plays hooker, he played most of the 2023 World Cup final after Bongi Mbonambi was injured early on. He was still playing Test rugby at 39 in 2026.
