Biography
Bob Loubser was one of the great early Springbok wings, quick and direct. Born in Durbanville on 6 August 1884 and educated at Paul Roos Gymnasium, he was an athlete first; Markötter turned him into a wing to partner the brilliant Japie Krige.
He made his debut at 19 in the series-clinching 8–0 win over the British Isles in 1903. On the 1906–07 tour he scored two tries against Ireland and another in the 11–0 win over Wales. He played seven Tests in all, the last in 1910. He later served in Parliament for Stellenbosch, though he said rugby gave him more than politics ever did. He died on 7 December 1962.
