Biography

Theuns Briers was a strong, powerful wing who scored five tries in seven Tests. Born in Paarl on 11 July 1929 and educated at Paarl Boys’ High, he was a farmer who played for Western Province and forced his way into the side at the 1955 trials.

He scored twice on debut against the 1955 British Isles side, once more at Newlands, and twice in the 22–8 win in Port Elizabeth that squared the series 2–2. He joined the 1956 tour of New Zealand as a replacement. He died on 7 October 2018.
