Biography

Flappie Lochner was a relaxed, very fast centre who came to Stellenbosch as a scrumhalf. Born in Vanrhynsdorp on 11 January 1913, he played for Eastern Province.

He made his debut in the 17–6 win at Eden Park in 1937 that clinched the series in New Zealand, and set up a try for Dai Williams. He then played two Tests against the 1938 British Isles side, scoring in Port Elizabeth. He never lost a Test and remained a respected figure in the game for many years. He died on 30 January 1996.
