Biography

Freddy Turner was a versatile back who played 11 Tests between 1933 and 1938. Born in Port Elizabeth on 18 March 1914 and educated at Grey High School, he was a late call-up for the first Test against the 1933 Wallabies and was said to be one of the first Springboks to fly to a match.

He scored tries against Australia and in two Tests in New Zealand in 1937, and kicked goals against the 1938 British Isles side, finishing with 29 points. He played for Eastern Province and Transvaal. He died on 13 September 2003.
