Biography

Fanie Louw was a fearless, cheerful prop who played 12 Tests between 1933 and 1938. Born in Paarl on 16 September 1909 and educated at Paarl Boys’ High, he played for Western Province and Transvaal and toured in 1931–32 and 1937.

He scored tries against Australia in 1933 and the British Isles in 1938, and was part of the 1937 team that won in New Zealand. His brother Boy also played for South Africa. He died young, on 13 July 1940, aged 30.
