Biography

Theuns Kruger was one of the first specialist hookers in South African rugby, a sharp striker of the ball who was also quick around the field. Born in Steynsburg on 17 June 1896 and educated at Paul Roos Gymnasium and Paarl Boys’ High, he played for Transvaal.

He played eight Tests between 1921 and 1928: the first series in New Zealand, all four Tests against the 1924 British Isles side and the 1928 series against the All Blacks. He died on 6 July 1957.
