Biography
Tank van Rooyen was a big Transvaal lock who played two Tests in New Zealand in 1921: the 9–5 win at Eden Park and the 0–0 draw in Wellington. Born in Steynsburg on 9 December 1892, he moved to England in 1922 to play rugby league. He won titles and Challenge Cups with Hull Kingston Rovers, Wigan and Widnes, where he was the club’s first overseas player. He died on 21 September 1942.
