Biography
Attie van Heerden scored a try on debut in South Africa’s first Test against New Zealand, at Carisbrook, Dunedin, in 1921. Born in Boshof on 10 March 1898 and educated at Paarl Gimnasium and Paul Roos Gymnasium, he played for Transvaal and won two caps on that tour.
He was also a national hurdles champion who ran at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp. He later switched to rugby league in England with Wigan and Leigh. He died on 14 October 1965.
