Biography
Dietlof Maré was a strong, versatile forward who toured Britain and Ireland in 1906–07 and won one cap, against Scotland at Hampden Park. Born in Pretoria on 2 July 1885, he played for Transvaal. He is credited with bringing Bob Loubser to Markötter’s attention, and he wrote the first rugby handbook published in Afrikaans. He died after a car accident on 14 October 1913, aged 28.
