Biography

Aphelele Fassi is a tall, elegant fullback with a gift for counter-attack and a safe pair of hands under the high ball. Born in King William’s Town on 23 January 1998 and educated at Dale College, he helped the Sharks win the Currie Cup in his first senior season in 2018 and has been a fixture in their back three ever since.

He made his Test debut against Georgia in 2021 and was named South Africa’s young player of the year. After two years out of the Test side he returned a more complete player in 2024, and was a key part of the teams that won the Rugby Championship in 2024 and 2025.
