Biography

Paddy Carolin was a thoughtful, influential back who played three Tests between 1903 and 1906. Born in Alicedale on 10 April 1881 and educated at Diocesan College (Bishops), he played for Villagers and Western Province.

He made his debut in the 8–0 win at Newlands that clinched the 1903 series. On the 1906–07 tour he served as a selector and captained South Africa against Scotland at Hampden Park. He remained a respected voice in Western Cape rugby for decades. He died on 15 March 1967.
