Biography
Alex Frew captained South Africa on his only appearance, scoring a try in the 10–10 draw with the British Isles in Johannesburg in 1903. A Scot from Newmilns in Ayrshire, born on 24 October 1877, he had already won three caps for Scotland in 1901, so he is one of the few men to play Test rugby for two countries.
He came to South Africa in 1902 to work at the Orange River camp, played for Collegians in Bloemfontein and then moved to Johannesburg. He died in Hout Bay on 29 April 1947.
