Biography
Broekie van Broekhuizen won his only cap in South Africa’s first Test victory, the 5–0 win over the British Isles at Newlands on 5 September 1896. He came in as a late replacement for the injured Scraps Wessels.
Born in the Netherlands on 17 June 1872 and educated at Grey College, he played his rugby for Stellenbosch University. He is said never to have played for a province, a rarity among Springboks. He died on 4 August 1953.
