Biography

Errol Tobias made history in 1981 as the first black player to play a Test for the Springboks, at centre against Ireland at Newlands. Born in Caledon on 18 March 1950, he played for Boland and had toured Britain with the Proteas and the South African Barbarians.

He played six Tests and won them all, later playing flyhalf. He scored a try and conversion against England in 1984 and kicked well against South America.
