Biography
Henry Gorton was an English-born forward who played in the first Test against the 1896 British Isles side at Port Elizabeth. Born in Burton-on-Trent on 28 October 1871 and educated at Burton Grammar School, he represented Transvaal.
He served with the Imperial Light Horse in the Anglo-Boer War. He was badly wounded at Elandslaagte and again at Wagon Hill during the siege of Ladysmith, and died of his wounds on 10 January 1900, aged 28.
