Biography
Paul Scott was a tough forward who played in all four Tests against the 1896 British Isles side, including the 5–0 win at Newlands that gave South Africa its first Test victory. Born in New Brunswick, Canada, on 26 October 1872, he came to South Africa as a child and was educated at Diocesan College (Bishops) and SACS. He represented Western Province and Transvaal.
His was a restless, adventurous life: he worked as a miner, transport rider, speculator and farmer, served in the Anglo-Boer War, rose from private to major in the First World War, and moved between South Africa and the Rhodesias.
