Biography

Clive Ulyate was a gifted all-round sportsman who played flyhalf in seven Tests between 1955 and 1956. Born in Johannesburg on 11 December 1933 and educated at Hilton College, he played for Transvaal.

His accurate diagonal kicks set up two tries for Theuns Briers in the 22–8 win in Port Elizabeth that squared the 1955 series, and he scored a try and a drop goal in that match himself. He toured New Zealand in 1956 and was also a talented cricketer. He died on 16 March 2018.
