Biography
Biddy Anderson played inside centre in three Tests against the 1896 British Isles side and was part of the team that won the fourth Test at Newlands, 5–0, South Africa’s first Test victory.
Born in Kimberley on 26 April 1874 and educated at Diocesan College (Bishops), he played for Western Province. Oubaas Markötter often held him up as the model Springbok: a fine player, a gifted coach and a much-loved man. In later life he settled in Bredasdorp, where he built his house from Table Mountain stone, and he enjoyed horse racing. He died on 11 March 1926.
