Biography

Dolf Bekker scored a try on debut in the 18–8 win over Australia at Kingsmead in 1953, and won again in Port Elizabeth a week later. Born in Dordrecht on 15 December 1926, he played on the wing for Northern Transvaal. He belonged to an extraordinary sporting family: his brothers Jaap and Martiens were also Springboks, his brother Daan won Olympic boxing medals, and his sister Corrie was an international athlete. He died on 22 June 2012.
