Biography
Basil Kenyon captained South Africa on his only Test appearance, the 11–8 win over New Zealand in Port Elizabeth in 1949 that completed a 4–0 series win. Born in Umtata on 19 May 1918, he played flank for Border and was rated by Danie Craven among the finest captains South Africa had produced.
He was chosen to lead the 1951–52 tour but suffered a serious eye injury early on and did not play again. He remained a source of inspiration to the team. He died on 9 May 1996.
