Biography

Felix du Plessis captained South Africa in his first three Tests, all wins over the 1949 All Blacks. Born in Steynsburg on 24 November 1919 and educated at Paul Kruger, he was a tall Transvaal lock who had led the wartime Garrison side. His uncle Nick du Plessis played for South Africa in the 1920s, and his son Morné later captained the Springboks too. He died on 1 May 1978.
