Biography
Ben du Toit came to Stellenbosch as a scrumhalf, but Markötter moved him to the flank, where he became one of the best of his time. Born in Malmesbury on 10 November 1912 and educated at Paarl Boys’ High, he toured in 1937 and played for Northern Transvaal. He won three caps against the 1938 British Isles side and scored a try in the 19–3 win in Port Elizabeth. He died on 25 January 1989.
