Biography

Hasie Versfeld won one Test cap, on the left wing in the third Test against the 1891 British Isles side at Newlands. He is remembered as one of very few South Africans to score a try against those tourists, who were almost unbeatable on their visit.

Born in Wynberg on 24 September 1866 and educated at Green Point Grammar School, he played for Western Province. He and his brother Oupa were the first of many pairs of brothers to play for South Africa, and another brother, Loftus, is remembered in the name of Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria. He died on 6 January 1941.
