Biography

George Daneel was a fine eighthman who walked away from rugby at the height of his powers to follow his faith. Born in Calvinia on 29 August 1904 and educated at Paul Roos Gymnasium, he played for Western Province and Transvaal.

He played all four Tests against the 1928 All Blacks, scoring a try in the 11–6 win in Port Elizabeth, and then all four Tests on the 1931–32 tour, with another try against Wales. Influenced by the Moral Re-Armament movement, he became a minister. He lived to 100 and died on 19 October 2004.
