Biography
Jack Slater scored the only try in the 17–0 win over New Zealand at Kingsmead in 1928. Born in Grahamstown on 16 April 1901 and educated at Kingswood College, he played for Eastern Province and won three caps on the wing, the first two against the 1924 British Isles side, including a try in the 16–9 win at Newlands.
He later trained as a teacher and taught at St Andrew’s College, where he was much respected. He died on 16 February 1986.
