Biography

Edward Little was a Scottish-born forward who helped lay the foundations of the game in South Africa. Born in Midlothian on 1 November 1864 and educated at Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh, he settled in Kimberley and became one of Griqualand West’s leading forwards.

He played in two Tests against the 1891 British Isles side: the first at Port Elizabeth and the third at Newlands. He stayed involved with rugby in Kimberley for years afterwards. He died on 1 July 1945, aged 80.
