Biography
Sommie Morkel was a strong, fast forward and one of the stalwarts of the 1906–07 touring team, playing all four Tests in Britain and Ireland. Born in Kimberley on 26 September 1879, he played for the Pirates and Mines clubs and Transvaal. He was one of several members of the Morkel family to play for South Africa. He died on 11 July 1921.
